What is an SEO agency?

An SEO agency is a company that helps your website show up when people search for what you do. "SEO" stands for search engine optimisation — the work of building a site that Google can understand, trust, and put in front of the right people. A good agency does that so the customers already looking for you actually find you, instead of the business three doors down.

That's the whole job, really: making sure that when someone in your area searches for what you sell, you're the answer they're handed.

What an SEO agency actually does

Behind the acronym, the work is fairly practical. A good one makes your site technically sound — quick to load, working properly on a phone, with none of the broken bits Google quietly trips over. It works out the words your customers genuinely type, and shapes your pages around them. It earns your site the signals of trust — other sites linking to you, honest reviews, a tidy Google Business Profile. And it keeps at it, because search doesn't stand still.

None of that is magic. It's craft, applied patiently.

Why it's made to feel confusing

Here's the uncomfortable part. A lot of agencies talk in jargon — "meta tags", "crawl budgets", "schema" — and it can feel deliberate. If you don't quite follow what you're paying for, you're easier to keep paying. We think that's backwards. Good SEO can be explained in plain English, and if an agency won't explain it, that tells you something. Ask what they're hiding.

Do you actually need one?

Honestly, not always — and we'd rather tell you that. The groundwork, you can do yourself: claim your Google listing, ask happy customers for reviews, write your pages in the plain words people actually search for. That alone puts you ahead of most. A studio is worth it for what comes next — the technical side you can't easily see, the research into who you're up against, and the patience to keep climbing once you're there. When being found is worth real money to you, and your hours are better spent running the business, that's the point you bring someone in.
